Thermal conductivity of compacted Opalinus Clay at different degrees of saturation

چکیده

Tunnelling in bedded shale rocks induces damage around the excavation. Consequently, rock mass excavation damaged zone (EDZ) shows different thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) properties from intact rock. In turn, material close to tunnel wall is affected by seasonal fluctuations temperature and relative humidity (RH) variations associated with ventilation, impacting total suction saturation state of EDZ. The monitoring data at new Swiss BelchenA2 highway excavated Opalinus Clay (OPA) captured these stressacting on lining this RH fluctuation. Within context, assessing field EDZ requires determining thermal conductivity degrees saturation. However, obtaining good-quality cores OPA not straightforward, partially desaturating them using controlled techniques time-consuming. instead testing OPA, statically compacted samples powder have been considered study conductivity. addition, two natural (with bedding orientations) retrieved Belchen tested cross-check experimental procedure results, which indicated a consistent increase degree

the role of application of dynamic assessment approach in improvement of iranian efl writing performance at different language proficiency levels

the present study sought to investigate the role of dynamic assessment (da) in improvement of iranian efl writing performance at different language proficiency levels. to this end, after conducting the quick placement test, 60 iranian efl learners were assigned to two groups with different language proficiency levels. in both groups each participant wrote two compositions, one before and one af...

Preliminary laboratory thermo - hydro - mechanical characterization of Opalinus clay

1 INSTRODUCTION In the concept of geological radioactive waste disposal, argillite is being considered as a possible host rock in various countries such as France and Switzerland. This material is chosen thanks to its extremely low permeability that is required to limit the transfer of radioactive elements from the waste package towards the environment. During the construction and exploitation ...

Chemical synthesis of anisotropic nanocrystalline Sb2Te3 and low thermal conductivity of the compacted dense bulk.

We describe a one-step, one-pot non-aqueous route for the synthesis of Sb2Te3 nanocrystals with hexagonal shape and highly anisotropic nanostructures. The as-prepared nanostructures were characterized by XRD, TEM and HRTEM. The effect of the stabilizers on the nanocrystal morphology has been discussed in detail. We have studied the thermal conductivity of the compacted bulk from the Sb2Te3 nano...

Intrinsic Sorptivity and Water Infiltration into Dry Soil at Different Degrees of Saturation

The sorptivity S quantifies the effect of capillarity on liquid movement in a porous material. For liquid infiltration into an initially dry material, S is a parameter that is contingent on both liquid and material properties as well as the maximum liquid content behind the infiltrating front, θm. In prior work, Culligan et al. (2005) used scaling analyses to derive a dimensionless, intrinsic s...
